Appalachian State University Online Textbook Purchasing
NOTICE
The University Bookstore’s online textbook ordering process will be temporarily interrupted in order for the third party service provider to assure the University that they are in compliance with all PCI(Payment Card Industry) Data Securiity Standard requirements as required by the North Carolina Office of the State Controller.
Notice will be provided on the University web site and through the University Office of Extension and Distance Education when the process may resume.
Please follow these directions for textbook purchases from the University Bookstore-
While you will no longer be able to purchase textbooks online, you can view the courses, sections, titles and prices of all required textbooks. Go to the link at the bottom of the page to view only textbooks online.
ATTENTION
Due to the Umstead Act we can only process web orders for Students, Faculty and Staff of the University. Anyone can navigate and search our website, but in order to purchase from the website you must be a student, faculty or staff member of Appalachian State University to be verified and authenticated by the University.
In fact you need to have a valid Appalachian State University Username and Password to purchase from this website. North Carolina law prohibits the University Bookstore from selling to the general public under the rules of the Umstead Act.
ACQUIRING YOUR TEXTBOOKS FOR EXTENSION AND DISTANCE EDUCATION
Textbooks required for each term are listed according to cohort/program name in the selection entitled "List of Textbooks Required for [Undergraduate or Graduate] Courses" within the table of contents. All textbooks will be available through the Appalachian State University Bookstore and instructions for ordering are provided below. The ISBN Numbers are also shown with the "List of Textbooks…" for students who may wish to acquire their books from other sources. (Certain coursepack materials are sold only by the University Bookstore, and those special purchases are reflected within the listing of textbooks required.)
ORDERING TEXTBOOKS / REQUIRED MATERIALS FROM
THE APPALACHIAN STATE UNIVERSITY BOOKSTORE
If you will be ordering your textbooks through the University Bookstore, please follow the steps below to submit the order for textbooks/materials. Shipments of texts/materials will be made upon inventory availability and should arrive at least one week in advance of the beginning of the [first] course. Textbooks (or required class materials) purchased from the University Bookstore will have shipping charges assessed according to the number of texts/materials ordered. For one text/item the shipping charge will be eight dollars ($8). For each additional text/item ordered in the same shipment, the charge will be one dollar ($1) per text/item. Orders of multiple copies of the same text are subject to actual shipping costs. Shipping charges are subject to review and change at the discretion of the University Bookstore. Priority shipping is available at an additional cost.
Steps in submitting the textbook/materials order:
- Register for the off-campus course(s) at the appropriate time. (All off-campus students are encouraged to register during their WRS/TRS appointed times.) Students who register later may need to request priority shipping.
- Ordering: The student may or 828/262-3070 (Off-campus students may, also, call the Office of Extension and Distance Education at 800/355-4084 and request to be transferred to Extension 3070)

- Each student must provide the following information for each course in the order:
* Course number
* Section number of the course
* If the course has multiple books, student must indicate the titles of books they wish to purchase
* The [student's] permanent mailing address (Orders will be shipped via UPS to the student's permanent street address. UPS will not deliver to a PO box.)
* Method of payment--Textbook purchases cannot be charged to the student account; payment must be made directly to the University Bookstore. The University Bookstore accepts MasterCard, VISA, personal checks and money orders. If paying by check or money order make the check payable to: ASU Bookstore in the amount due for total purchase (including sales tax and shipping). If charging to a credit card, include the credit card number and expiration date. Payments by check or money order should be mailed to:

Return Policy
The University Bookstore will provide a refund on books returned using the following guidelines:
* 100% refund if books are returned and the shipment is postmarked within 3 days of the 1st day of class.
* Books must be returned in the same condition as purchased to receive the full refund, and a copy of the receipt must be included.
* Shipping and handling costs will be the responsibility of the customer.
* MasterCard and Visa sales refunds will be issued within 48 hours after the receipt of the returned book(s).
* Check and Money Orders sales refunds will be issued within 15 days after the receipt of the returned book(s).
* Coursepak Materials are not returnable.
